More instances of philanthropic holiday cheer among local businesses:

Not only is DOMA Technologies LLC giving up Its company paid holiday parties to spend more on charitable endeavors, its executives will forgo their Christmas bonuses.

The Virginia Beach-based document management firm adopted the theme "4 Weeks of Giving” leading up to Christmas. For the first week, DOMA sponsored two families that have children in a hospice program. Leticia S. Feliciano, DOMA's president and chief executive officer, wrote in a Dec. 9 e-mail to employees.

"Since this could be the last Christmas for both of these children, it was important to us at DOMA to help provide these 2 families with a merry Christmas," she said.

Bank of Hampton Roads and Independent Lighting Corp. are among other Companies that have dropped or scaled back Christmas celebrations.

At Independent Lighting in Virginia Beach, workers decided to transform the Christmas dinner into a lunch and gave $500 to the Joy Fund, the Virginian-Pilot charity that provides toys for children, said Chris Carpenter, the company's president.

Bank of Hampton Roads will do without its formal holiday party, said Tiffany K. Glenn, the bank's senior vice president, marketing officer and corporate secretary.

As part of its "Crush Hunger" food drive, it hosted the monster truck "Stone Crusher'" at its Edinburgh office in Chesapeake on Dec. 6, offering free pictures with the truck for any food or monetary donation. Food collected at its branches will be donated to the Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia, Glenn said.
